The New York Chapter works for individuals in risk management through all of its events and programming to support fulsome messaging and communications of financial risk management in banking, securities industries, insurance/re-insurance enterprise, and all agents of financial wealth gathering/management.  Members are admitted according Chapter criteria on good faith in terms of their engagement in professional risk management career assignments. Founded on February 20, 1920, The New York Chapter of RMA is based in New York City. The Chapter now celebrates ninety years of professional development and support for individuals in the NYC metro area working to improve financial risk literacy and for the benefit of financial services.

The New York Chapter of RMA is dedicated to advancing the understanding and practice of risk management and its intrinsic role in engendering enterprise success. As a public voice for risk management, the Chapter strongly advocates the strategic importance of risk management professionals and their ability to bolster both entrepreneurial growth and systemic stability through the skilled and objective assessment of risk. Through its esteemed programs, anticipation of emerging risks in the marketplace, and focus on education and professional growth, the Chapter provides individual risk managers and their institutions with expert opinion, best practices, and the experience of peer organizations. Collectively, the Chapter’s focus, activities, and membership firmly establish the vital contribution of risk management in furthering the financial health, winning performance, and long term viability of financial institutions and markets.

  


NOTE:  THE NEW YORK CHAPTER of RMA is organized and run by risk management professionals as volunteer members of the NY Chapter.  It is a New York State registered corporation and is designated by the US IRS as a 501(c)6, a not-for-profit professional business association.

The Risk Management Association (RMA National as RMA HQ), headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, is a not-for-profit member-driven professional association whose sole purpose is to advance the use of sound risk principles in the financial services industry.  Founded in 1914, RMA HQ has 3000 institutional members that include banks of all sizes as well as non-bank financial institutions.  RMA HQ is represented in local chapters, such as The New York Chapter, through promotion of an enterprise approach to risk management that focuses on credit risk, market risk, and operational risk.  The New York Chapter of RMA operates fully within the charter and By-Laws of RMA HQ, but accepts only individual membership independent of RMA HQ.  While all professionals employed by institutions that are members of RMA HQ are welcome and invited to join the NY Chapter, individual or institutional affiliation membership in RMA HQ is not required for membership in the local NY Chapter of RMA.  See tabs at left for specific links to the RMA HQ web site and for information regarding membership in the National/Global organization
